VHP (Vishwa Hindu Parishad) is the world’s largest Hindu organization, which was founded in 1964 at Pujya Swami ChinmayaNand Ji’s Sandipani Ashram in Mumbai on the auspicious occasion of Shri Krishna Janmashtami on 29 August 1964. Its objective is to organize Hindu society, protect Hinduism and work on religious, social and cultural issues of Hindu society. VHP has achieved many major achievements in sixty years, some of which are as follows:
Sant Sampark:
Leading religious leaders and saints of all sects appeared on one platform and declared ‘Na Hindu Patito Bhavet’. The resolution to stop conversion and return to one’s own religion was also taken in this conference. In 1969, a Sant Sammelan was held in Udupi, in which, according to Dr. Ambedkar’s opinion, revered saints declared in one voice that untouchability has no place in Hindu religious scriptures and this curse will be ended. In 1970, saints and sages from across the country, along with Naga queen Gaindilu, declared among the tribal brothers that the tribal brothers are an integral part of the Hindu society. After this, the conspiracies of the missionaries and separatists started coming to an end.
Cow protection:
VHP has also made significant efforts for cow protection in India. Under this, the organization has run a campaign to strictly implement laws against cow slaughter, as a result of which strict laws have been made on cows in the country. Gaushalas have been established to protect cows. The Gau Raksha Department of VHP has achieved many cow-related achievements across the country through the Indian Gau Raksha and Promotion Council, Cow Slaughter and Meat Export Prevention Council and National Gau Raksha Andolan Samiti. The work of promotion of indigenous breeds is being done at 60 places. 1200 Gaushalas are being run by the Gau Raksha Department in India. Home remedies and medicines are being manufactured at 40 places on the basis of Panchagavya. From the point of view of earning money, the practice of earning 50000 rupees per month from 5 cows is being successfully implemented. More than 25 lakh cows have been saved from cow smugglers and cow killers so far.
Stopping illegal conversion and bringing back the converted to their own religion:
VHP has saved more than 40 lakh brothers and sisters from religious conversion and has brought back 9 lakh Hindu brothers and sisters to their own religion and in the last one year, 8 thousand sisters have been saved from the conspiracy of love jihad. Many campaigns have been run to bring back those Hindus who have become Muslims or Christians due to greed, temptation and fear, to their own religion. As a result, lakhs of Hindus across the country have returned to their home i.e. their own religion. In the Beawar project of Rajasthan, about 1 lakh 10 thousand Muslim converted Hindus have been brought back home through 340 schools, 32 hostels, more than 100 Sanskar Kendras. In Banswara also, 50 thousand Hindus who had converted to Christianity have been brought back home, here not a single Hindu has become Christian in the last 15 years. Similarly, in 7 districts of Odisha, through 15 schools and 700 satsangs, more than 2000 converted Hindus are brought back home every year.
Service work:
4500 service projects are run by the service department of VHP. In which 840 Sanskar Shalas are run at 93 places in 31 provinces, in which 17000 children study. Hostels are run in scheduled tribal areas. Similarly, from the medical point of view, patients are helped through the Rogi Sahayata Kendra in Goa. During floods, earthquakes, and other natural disasters, VHP workers do relief work with their body, mind and money.
Ram Janmabhoomi Movement:
VHP started a massive movement for the liberation of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya. Due to this movement, the Babri structure was demolished by the Hindu society on 6 December 1992. In 2019, the Supreme Court gave a decision in favor of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi. For the construction of a grand temple at Shri Ram Janmabhoomi, funds were collected from about twelve and a half crore families of five lakh villages through the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Nidhi Samarpan Abhiyan. On the day of Prana Pratishtha on 22 January 2024, a grand temple was built in lakhs of temples across the country along with the Hindu society and Shri Ramlala has also been seated in his home after Pranapratishtha.
Religious pilgrimages:
Old Amarnath Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir. In 1995, terrorists had threatened to stop the Amarnath Yatra, saying that if anyone comes, he will not go back. On the call of the saints, this challenge was accepted and 51000 Bajrangis along with one lakh other Shiva devotees came on this difficult journey. Today lakhs of Shiva devotees come on Amarnath Yatra and have darshan of Baba. The Old Amarnath Yatra was stopped in Kashmir due to the fear of terrorists, then Bajrang Dal started the Old Amarnath Yatra by awakening the self-confidence of Hindus in Poonch Rajori. Today lakhs of Shiva devotees come here on the Yatra. Five pilgrimages of Uttarakhand, Nalhad Mahadev Yatra in Mewat of Haryana, Dattapeeth Yatra in Karnataka, Ganesh Utsav Samiti in Bhagyanagar, movement for Bhagyalakshmi Mata Temple in Bhagyanagar itself, Jagannath Nav Kalevar Yatra in Orissa, Ram Janaki Baraat Yatra.
These religious journeys have awakened the feeling of country and religion, social harmony and unity. During Congress rule, the existence of Ram Setu was denied in the name of protecting the environment. Then in 2007, Vishwa Hindu Parishad started a movement in the whole country and called for a countrywide bandh.
