Jammu and Kashmir Politics: Congress and NC Struggle Over Pir Panjal Seats

Jammu and Kashmir

With the announcement of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, political manipulation has started.

Congress and National Conference (NC) have formed an alliance to contest elections on all 90 seats here. This alliance was announced after a meeting between National Conference President Farooq Abdullah, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi. The biggest challenge before this alliance now is the distribution of seats. According to political experts, the issue of seat sharing between the two parties is not going to be easy.

AgreementĀ  has already made on most of the seats

According to media reports, consensus has already been reached between the two parties on most of the seats in Jammu and Kashmir, but the agreement on the seats of Pir Panjal Valley is stuck. It is being said that the position of National Conference is strong inside the valley, so Farooq Abdullah is demanding more seats for himself here. On the other hand, Congress is claiming more seats for itself in Jammu region. Both the parties agree on this, but there is no consensus between the two parties on the seats of Pir Panjal.

Congress wants seats under 40-50 formula

Based on party sources, media reports claimed that in this alliance, Congress wants seats under the 40-50 formula. But the National Conference is not ready to give more than 25 to 30 seats to Congress. According to party sources, Congress leaders are demanding all those seats in the valley for themselves, from where they have contested elections earlier. However, the National Conference is not ready for this. The biggest confusion is about the seats of Pir Panjal.

The leaders of the alliance have claimed that the division of ‘about 75% seats’ has been decided. Talks are going on between the two parties regarding the remaining seats. It is being said that Congress President Kharge suggested that the two parties can fight separately on those seats on which there is no consensus. Because the aim of both the parties is to defeat the BJP. The National Conference and Congress also want PDP to join this alliance.
