Smita Sabharwal: Inspiring Journey of India’s Youngest IAS Officer

The Dream of millions of Indian young people passing the Civil Services Examination (UPSC) is not a simple trip. Many contenders have to repeatedly experience disappointment. Some others, on their first or second try, pass this challenging test, however one such person is Smita Sabharwal, at just 22, the youngest female IAS official in India.

Early years and schooling of Smita Sabharwal

Smita Sabharwal born in Darjeeling, West Bengal. Her father held an Indian Army colonel’s rank. This meant that her childhood was spent all throughout the nation. Early on Smita attended St. Anne’s School. She usually exceeded her class and was smart in her studies from early life. Later she graduated from the esteemed St. Francis College in Hyderabad in business. Her performance was also rather outstanding here. Smita also topped class 12, evidence of her intelligence and commitment. From early life, Smita was fascinated with social work. Over her time in school and college, she took part in numerous social events. Later on, this background proved useful as an IAS officer.

Success story of Smita Sabharwal

In her initial effort, Smita failed to pass the IAS preliminary examination. She didn’t give up, though. She started getting ready after she grew from her blunders. Failure, she thought, is a staircase toward success. Smita Sabharwal gave her second try with great effort. She studied twelve to fourteen hours every day. This year her diligence paid off. On the UPSC test, Smita obtained All India Rank (AIR) 4 in 2000. She was barely 22 years old at this point. At twenty-three Smita registered her name among the youngest IAS officers in India. This success mattered not only to her but also to the whole nation.

Public servant identity

On social media Smita Sabharwal is referred to as the “public officer”. She has around 3.35 lakh Twitter followers. She listens to people’s issues and finds answers on social media using her accounts. Over her career, Smita has worked in several Telangana districts. She has held key roles in areas including Warangal, Visakhapatnam, Karimnagar and Chittoor. Everywhere her work has gained the hearts of the people.

Smita Sabharwal is now employed in the Chief Minister’s Office. Her goal here is to hear public problems and assist in their solutions. She works honestly and with great dedication. Smita thinks that an IAS officer’s responsibilities go beyond merely sitting in the office staring at records. She regularly goes to the field and speaks with the individuals personally. This facilitates their better understanding of the issues.

Hard effort and will will help one overcome any challenge. Her path inspires every young person who wants to realize their aspirations. She shows that if you have skill and great will you can accomplish anything; age is simply a number.
