10 lakh insurance cover will be available
This year the Maharashtra government has taken a big step for the safety of Govindas. The government has started a special insurance scheme for the Govindas. It has been decided to give them an insurance cover of Rs 10 lakh under this scheme. If someone gets into an accident during the Govinda Dahi Handi and loses both his hands, legs or eyes, he will get Rs 10 lakh.
75,000 Govindas will benefit from this scheme
This insurance scheme will be available to 75,000 Govindas of the state. If someone Govinda loses one hand, leg or one eye in an accident, then he will get an insurance of up to 5 lakh rupees.
Separate money will be paid for treatment
If a Govinda gets injured, the government will pay up to Rs 1 lakh for his treatment. This money will be apart from the insurance.
Dahi Handi festival this year
This year Dahi Handi will be celebrated on 27th August. Many big events will be held on this day in many cities of Maharashtra. Thousands of Govindas will show their skills. They will try to break the high pot by building a pyramid of humans. Film stars and leaders also participate in this festival. They encourage the Govindas and add color to the festivities.
