New Delhi/Cupertino, October 27, 2026: Apple has unveiled a major redesign of the iPad mini, bringing an OLED display, A20 Pro processor, thinner body, IP67 water and dust resistance and upgraded artificial intelligence features to its smallest tablet.
In India, the new iPad mini starts at ₹82,900 for the Wi-Fi model, while the Wi-Fi + Cellular version starts at ₹1,00,900. Pre-orders are scheduled to begin on October 28, with retail availability starting November 6.
Biggest iPad Mini Upgrade in Years
Apple is describing the latest model as the biggest update to the iPad mini so far.
The compact tablet receives major upgrades across the display, processor, cameras, wireless connectivity, audio, durability and artificial intelligence capabilities.
New 8.5-Inch OLED Display
The biggest visual change is the introduction of an 8.5-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display.
This is the first iPad mini to use OLED technology, giving the tablet pixel-level lighting control, deeper blacks and significantly higher contrast than the previous LCD-based model.
Screen Gets Bigger Without Larger Footprint
Apple has increased the display size while keeping the compact dimensions associated with the iPad mini.
The company says the bezels are 24% thinner, allowing the display to grow without substantially increasing the device’s overall footprint.
Peak Brightness Reaches 1,200 Nits
The new OLED panel supports peak brightness of up to 1,200 nits.
Apple says this is more than twice the peak brightness of the previous generation, making the display easier to view outdoors and improving HDR content.
2,000,000:1 Contrast Ratio
The display offers a contrast ratio of 2,000,000:1, allowing darker blacks and brighter highlights.
It also supports the P3 wide colour gamut and True Tone technology for more accurate colour reproduction.
Nano-Texture Display Option Introduced
Apple is also bringing a nano-texture glass option to selected iPad mini configurations.
The coating is designed to reduce reflections and glare in bright environments, particularly for users working outdoors or under strong lighting.
A20 Pro Powers New iPad Mini
The tablet is powered by Apple’s A20 Pro chip.
Apple says the processor delivers a major jump in performance compared with the previous iPad mini and has been designed to handle demanding applications, games and AI workloads.
AI Processing Gets Major Upgrade
The A20 Pro includes Neural Accelerators integrated into the GPU cores along with an upgraded Neural Engine.
Apple says these improvements significantly increase performance for on-device AI tasks.
The new tablet supports the latest generation of Apple Intelligence and Siri AI through iPadOS 27.
Siri AI Gains Personal Context
Apple says the new Siri AI can use a user’s personal context to provide more relevant answers and assistance.
It can also understand information displayed on the screen and answer questions using broader world knowledge.
New Landscape Front Camera
The iPad mini now gets a 12MP Center Stage front camera positioned on the landscape edge.
The change is designed to improve video calls when the tablet is being used horizontally.
Center Stage can automatically adjust framing to keep the user visible during video calls.
12MP Rear Camera Retained
The tablet also includes a 12MP Wide rear camera capable of recording 4K video.
The rear camera can be used for photography, document scanning and augmented-reality applications.
New Acoustic Display Technology
Apple has introduced what it calls an Acoustic Display.
The technology is intended to improve the audio experience while preserving the iPad mini’s thin form factor.
Thinner Design at 5.4mm
The new iPad mini measures just 5.4mm thick, making it thinner than the previous model.
Apple says the device has also become lighter, improving portability and one-handed usability.
IP67 Water and Dust Resistance
For the first time, the iPad mini has an IP67 rating.
That means it offers certified resistance to dust and water under specified conditions, making the tablet more suitable for outdoor and field use.
Faster Wireless Connectivity
Apple has upgraded wireless and cellular connectivity on the new model.
The company says the improvements offer faster and more reliable connections for streaming, cloud applications and mobile work.
Fast Charging Added
The new iPad mini also supports faster charging.
Apple has not positioned charging as the main selling point, but the feature should reduce charging times compared with previous models when used with compatible power adapters.
Available in Two Colours
The redesigned iPad mini will be offered in Midnight and Starlight finishes.
Apple has simplified the colour lineup while focusing on the new chassis and OLED display.
Three Storage Options
The tablet will be offered with:
- 128GB storage
- 256GB storage
- 512GB storage
The base Wi-Fi model starts at ₹82,900.
Cellular Model Starts at ₹1,00,900
Customers who want mobile data connectivity can choose the Wi-Fi + Cellular version.
Apple says this model starts at ₹1,00,900 in India.
Education Price Starts at ₹76,900
Apple is also offering education pricing.
Eligible students and educators can purchase the iPad mini starting at ₹76,900.
Apple Pencil Pro Support Continues
The new model supports Apple Pencil Pro as well as Apple Pencil with USB-C.
Apple Pencil Pro offers features including squeeze gestures and barrel roll controls for creative applications.
Smart Folio Also Updated
Apple has introduced a new TechWoven Smart Folio for the iPad mini.
It is priced at ₹8,500 in India and will be available in navy blue and taupe.
Apple Pencil Pro Costs ₹11,900
Apple Pencil Pro is priced at ₹11,900, while the USB-C Apple Pencil costs ₹7,900.
Education pricing is also available for both accessories.
Pre-Orders Begin October 28
Apple will open pre-orders for the new iPad mini in India on Wednesday, October 28.
The device can be ordered through Apple’s website and Apple Store app.
Sales Begin November 6
The tablet will begin arriving to customers on Friday, November 6.
It will also become available at Apple Store locations and authorised resellers from the same date.
OLED Upgrade Targets Premium Users
The move to OLED positions the iPad mini significantly closer to Apple’s premium tablet lineup.
Better contrast, higher brightness and a larger display could make the compact model more appealing to creators, professionals and users who want a smaller device without sacrificing display quality.
AI Becomes Core Selling Point
Apple is increasingly integrating AI functionality across its hardware lineup.
The A20 Pro and iPadOS 27 combination makes Apple Intelligence and Siri AI central to the new iPad mini’s positioning.
Compact Tablet Category Gets Premium Pricing
At ₹82,900, the iPad mini remains considerably more expensive than Apple’s entry-level iPad.
The pricing reflects its OLED panel, high-end chip, compact design and premium feature set rather than positioning it as an affordable tablet.
Apple Targets Professionals and Creators
Apple says the device is aimed at a wide range of users, including creators, doctors, field workers, small-business owners and gamers.
Its smaller size also makes it more portable than larger iPad models while retaining support for professional apps and accessories.
Major Upgrade for Apple’s Smallest Tablet
The 2026 iPad mini represents a substantial shift for Apple’s compact tablet.
With its OLED display, A20 Pro processor, AI capabilities, IP67 protection and thinner design, the device moves further into premium-tablet territory.
For Indian buyers, pre-orders begin October 28, with prices starting at ₹82,900 and general availability scheduled for November 6.
