SRINAGAR, September 30: A Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba militant identified as Mohammad Asif alias Hashim Moosa was killed in an overnight encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam district.
His body was recovered during a search operation in the Palmaidan area following a gunfight in Korag, Yousmarg. Security forces also recovered war-like stores from the site.
Joint Operation Launched in Yousmarg
The operation was carried out jointly by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force.
Security forces launched a search operation in the Korag area after receiving specific intelligence regarding militant movement.
The operation later expanded to nearby areas as troops continued searches through the night.
Gunfight Begins After Suspicious Movement Detected
During the search, security personnel noticed suspicious activity in the area.
When the individuals were challenged, firing reportedly began, leading to an exchange of gunfire between militants and security forces.
One militant was killed during the encounter.

During searches early on Wednesday, security forces recovered the body of the slain militant.
He was identified as Mohammad Asif alias Hashim Moosa, described by security agencies as a Pakistan-based member of Lashkar-e-Taiba.
His identity was subsequently confirmed by the Army.

Security forces also recovered war-like stores from the encounter site.
