Jan Suraaj Leader Anil Yadav Shot Multiple Times at Patna Residence; Police Probe Underway

PATNA, September 24: Former Patna Municipal Corporation councillor and Jan Suraaj Party leader Anil Yadav was shot multiple times by unidentified assailants at his residence in Patna’s Buddha Colony police station area on Wednesday evening. Yadav was initially taken to Udayan Hospital and later shifted to Medanta Hospital for further treatment. Police said his condition was stable in their latest update.

Attack Took Place Around 7:30 PM

Police said they received information about the shooting at around 7:30 PM on September 23.

Yadav, a four-time former ward councillor, was sitting in the basement of his apartment building when the attackers arrived and opened fire. His wife currently represents Ward No. 24 in the Patna Municipal Corporation.

Four to Five Bullet Injuries Reported

Patna SDPO-1 (Law and Order) Krishna Murari Prasad said Yadav suffered around four to five bullet injuries.

Police said injuries were reported on his legs and lower abdomen, and doctors were attempting to remove a bullet lodged in the abdominal area. The SDPO said Yadav was stable at the time of the latest police update.

Assailants Arrived on Motorcycle

According to Yadav’s statement to police, three men arrived on a motorcycle while he was in the basement before shots were fired.

Other reports and CCTV descriptions indicate that at least two of the men were involved in the firing. Police have not yet publicly identified the attackers.

CCTV Footage Being Examined

Investigators have started examining CCTV footage from the apartment complex and surrounding roads to trace the attackers and reconstruct their movements before and after the shooting.

A Forensic Science Laboratory team was also sent to the scene to collect evidence, while police teams have launched searches and raids at suspected locations.

Motive Behind Attack Still Unclear

Police said the motive has not yet been established and investigators are examining multiple possible angles, including previous disputes or enmity.

No organisation or individual had publicly claimed responsibility for the attack at the time of reporting.

Prashant Kishor Visits Hospital

Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor visited Udayan Hospital and was present when Yadav was shifted to Medanta for further treatment.

Kishor criticised the law-and-order situation in Bihar following the attack. His comments represent Jan Suraaj’s political assessment of the incident; police have so far focused publicly on identifying the assailants and determining the motive.

Tejashwi Yadav Also Meets Injured Leader

RJD national working president Tejashwi Yadav also visited the hospital to enquire about Anil Yadav’s condition.

The shooting has drawn political attention because it occurred in a central Patna residential area and involved a former elected municipal representative.

Police Launch Manhunt

Patna Police said a manhunt is underway to identify and arrest those responsible.

Investigators are relying on CCTV footage, forensic material, witness statements and technical evidence as the probe continues. No arrests had been publicly confirmed in the latest reports reviewed.
