NEW YORK, September 8: Elena Rybakina powered past four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka 6-1, 6-4 to reach the US Open quarter-finals for the first time in her career.
Dominant Win in Just 66 Minutes
The world No. 2 controlled the match from the start, taking the opening set in only 22 minutes before completing the victory in 66 minutes.
Rybakina finished with 29 winners and seven aces, while winning 27 of 31 points behind her first serve.
World No. 1 Ranking Within Reach
Rybakina will face Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen in the quarter-finals.
A victory over Zheng would guarantee Rybakina the world No. 1 ranking for the first time when the WTA rankings are updated after the US Open. She currently sits at No. 2 behind Aryna Sabalenka.
Rybakina Eyes Third Grand Slam Title
The Kazakh star has already won Wimbledon 2022 and the 2026 Australian Open. Her strong run in New York now keeps her in contention for a third Grand Slam singles title as well as the top ranking.
