NEW DELHI/KATHMANDU, September 5: The Ministry of External Affairs said on Saturday that 275 Indian nationals remain missing following the catastrophic Nepal-Tibet floods, while 166 Indians have been rescued so far as India continues expanding its humanitarian and technical assistance to Nepal.
1,907 Indians Cross Into Nepal From China
According to the latest MEA update, 1,907 Indian nationals have safely crossed into Nepal from China following disruption caused by the August 26 floods along the Nepal-Tibet border.
The ministry also said that no Indian travellers are currently stranded in the Tibet Autonomous Region.
Indian diplomatic missions continue to coordinate with local authorities and affected families to trace people who remain unaccounted for.
India Sends Around 95 Tonnes of Relief Material
India has delivered around 95 tonnes of humanitarian relief supplies to Nepal as part of its continuing disaster-response mission.
The assistance includes emergency supplies required by communities affected by widespread destruction of homes, roads, bridges and other critical infrastructure.
54 Indian Experts Join Rescue Effort
India has also deployed 54 specialists to support technically difficult rescue and recovery operations.
The team includes tunnel-rescue experts, forensic specialists and medical personnel, reflecting the increasingly complex nature of the mission as rescuers search damaged hydropower facilities and inaccessible areas.
Forensic Kits and Bailey Bridges Being Considered
The MEA said India remains in close coordination with the Nepal government and is prepared to provide further assistance based on Kathmandu’s requirements.
Additional support under consideration includes forensic kits and Bailey bridges, which could help with victim identification and restoration of road connectivity in disaster-hit regions.
Nepal Death Toll Continues to Rise
The floods have caused massive destruction across Nepal, with at least 1,295 deaths reported and around 5,000 people still missing, according to the latest figures cited in Saturday’s update.
More than 12,000 people have been rescued as Nepalese forces and international teams continue search-and-rescue operations.
Search for Missing Indians Continues
The tracing of the 275 missing Indian nationals remains a major priority for Indian authorities.
Officials are continuing to work with Nepalese agencies, hospitals, rescue teams and local administrations to identify survivors and obtain information from areas where communications and transport links remain disrupted.
India has said it will continue supporting Nepal with humanitarian supplies, technical experts and additional infrastructure assistance as rescue and recovery efforts proceed.
