India Post GDS Recruitment 2026 Registration Starts Today for 23,757 Vacancies

The Department of Posts has opened registration today, August 31, 2026, for 23,757 Gramin Dak Sevak vacancies across postal circles in India.

The recruitment drive covers posts of Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) and Dak Sevak under India Post’s GDS Online Engagement Schedule-II.

Candidates should note that August 31 marks the beginning of the One-Time Registration process, not the full application submission window.

One-Time Registration will remain open until September 19, 2026, at 5 PM. Candidates will be able to submit their applications and pay the applicable fee from September 2 to September 21, 2026, at 5 PM. A correction window is scheduled for September 23 and 24.

The recruitment includes 23,757 vacancies nationwide. Maharashtra has 2,297 Marathi-category posts, Tamil Nadu has 2,118 Tamil posts, while Uttar Pradesh has 1,691 Hindi-category vacancies.

Applicants must generally be between 18 and 40 years of age as of September 21, with age relaxation available for eligible reserved categories.

Candidates must have passed Class 10 with Mathematics and English and should know the local language required for the postal circle they select. Basic computer knowledge and cycling ability are also required.

One of the major features of the GDS recruitment is that there is no written examination. Selection will be based on a system-generated merit list prepared using candidates’ Class 10 marks, followed by document verification and medical examination.

The Time Related Continuity Allowance for BPM posts ranges from ₹12,000 to ₹29,380, while ABPM and Dak Sevak positions carry a range of ₹10,000 to ₹24,470.

India Post has clarified that Gramin Dak Sevaks are not regular Central Government employees, and their service conditions are governed separately under the GDS rules.

The application fee is ₹100 for male candidates belonging to UR, OBC and EWS categories. SC, ST, PwBD, female and transwomen applicants are exempt from the fee.

Candidates have been advised to use only the official India Post recruitment portal and carefully verify their Class 10 marks, category, local-language eligibility and personal details before submitting the final application.
