Flood-hit Chitrakoot continued to battle severe conditions on Monday, August 31, with homes, shops and streets across parts of Madhya Pradesh’s Satna district covered in mud and sludge following the swelling of the Mandakini River.
Fresh reports on Monday said flood-like conditions persisted in Chitrakoot and surrounding areas, while residents began assessing extensive damage to houses, businesses, roads and other infrastructure.
The Ramghat area has suffered significant damage, including to bridges and nearby commercial establishments. Reports said hundreds of shops were affected during the flooding, while several homes were inundated as the Mandakini rose sharply following intense rainfall.
The district administration said more than 350 people have been rescued from flood-affected areas of Satna district, with State Disaster Response Force teams continuing operations in vulnerable locations.
Across the wider Chitrakoot region, reports indicate that more than 700 people have been moved to safety during the flood response as authorities continue relief work and provide assistance to affected families.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has described the next two to three days as critical and directed senior officials to remain in affected areas and closely supervise relief and rehabilitation operations.
Officials have also been instructed to conduct house-to-house damage assessments across Satna district to evaluate losses to homes, livestock, businesses and public infrastructure.
While some reports on Monday morning indicated that floodwaters had started receding in parts of Chitrakoot, extensive destruction remains visible along the Mandakini, with mud, debris and damaged infrastructure creating major challenges for residents.
Authorities are continuing to monitor rainfall and river conditions closely as rescue, relief and damage-assessment operations proceed across the affected region.
