New Delhi, July 3: The Government of India has announced that it will send an official high-level delegation to represent the country at the state funeral of Iran’s former Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The delegation will include Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita and Bihar Governor Syed Ata Hasnain, who will attend the funeral ceremonies in Tehran on behalf of India. The move underscores the importance India attaches to its longstanding relationship with Iran.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the high-level representation reflects the strong civilisational ties, people-to-people connections, and strategic partnership that have shaped India–Iran relations over several decades.

According to the MEA, the Indian delegation will travel to Iran to participate in the official funeral ceremonies beginning on 4 July. The government described the visit as a gesture of respect and friendship towards the Iranian people during a significant national occasion.
