Srinagar, June 28: The Jammu & Kashmir Police on Sunday carried out a comprehensive high-altitude rescue and emergency response drill along the Amarnath Yatra route to strengthen preparedness ahead of the annual pilgrimage. The exercise was conducted in coordination with multiple agencies to ensure the safety and security of thousands of devotees expected to undertake the yatra.
The mock drill simulated emergency situations, including landslides, medical evacuations, extreme weather conditions, and search-and-rescue operations in mountainous terrain.
Multi-Agency Exercise Along the Yatra Route
Personnel from the Jammu & Kashmir Police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), health services, fire and emergency departments, and other security agencies participated in the exercise.
The drill focused on coordinated response mechanisms, communication systems, and rapid evacuation procedures in case of emergencies during the pilgrimage.
Rescue Teams Test Emergency Preparedness
Officials conducted simulated rescue operations involving injured pilgrims, rope rescue techniques, stretcher evacuations, and first-aid response in difficult terrain.
Special attention was given to ensuring quick medical assistance and safe evacuation from high-altitude areas where changing weather conditions can pose additional challenges.
Authorities Review Security Arrangements
Senior police and civil administration officials reviewed the preparedness of security personnel deployed along both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes.
Authorities also inspected communication equipment, emergency shelters, medical camps, and disaster response resources positioned along the pilgrimage corridor.
Pilgrims Advised to Follow Official Guidelines
The administration urged devotees planning to undertake the Amarnath Yatra to register through authorised channels, undergo mandatory health screening, and monitor official weather advisories before beginning their journey.
Pilgrims have also been advised to carry appropriate clothing, medicines, and emergency essentials due to the challenging high-altitude conditions.
Focus on Safe and Smooth Pilgrimage
Officials said the rescue drill forms part of a broader preparedness strategy aimed at ensuring a safe, secure, and well-coordinated Amarnath Yatra this year.
The administration reaffirmed that all concerned agencies remain on high alert and are working together to provide timely assistance in the event of any emergency along the pilgrimage route.
